Bay Area Dominican Schools Music Project

The Dominican Schools Music Project is a non-profit music education program implemented in seven K-8 Dominican Catholic Schools served by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose.

We are currently searching for 1 full time position for a K-8 general music and after school band teacher at St. Elizabeth’s Elementary in Oakland. This position is salary plus benefits according to the salary schedule of the Oakland Diocese.

Applicants should meet most, if not all of the criteria listed in the following descriptions and possess a strong passion for bringing quality music education to diverse student populations.

The teacher for St. Elizabeth’s will meet the following criteria:

• Bachelor of Arts Degree or an Advanced Degree in Music/Music Education
• 2-3 years experience working with children between the ages of 6-14 in a large group or classroom setting
• Strong Classroom management skills
• Experience in teaching beginning and intermediate band to elementary students and conducting sectionals
• Knowledge of Catholic liturgy preferred
• Flexibility and adaptability to working and coordinating with classroom teachers, principals, other music faculty and administrative staff in the program.
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Knowledge of music methodologies including Orff, Kodaly and Dalcroze preferred; willingness to learn and incorporate them into the program essential
• Ability to teach recorder, tone chimes, keyboard and children’s singing
• Experience in preparing for various concerts
• Has reliable transportation to teaching location in Oakland (school is accessible by BART)

Audition Opportunities
Berkeley Opera Auditions for Ballad of Baby Doe. Auditions will be held in San Francisco in the late afternoon and evening, Sunday November 9 and Monday November 10, 2008.

The four performance dates are July 11, 15, 17 evenings, and July 19 matinee, 2009.
Rehearsals will begin around June 1.
Musical Directors are Jonathan Khuner and Emily Senturia.
Stage Director is Russell Blackwood.
Designer is Jeremy Knight.

Please note:
1. The title role, Baby Doe has already been cast, so no candidates for that role will be heard.
2. There are many comprimario and minor roles, some of which may be bundled, according to the list below.
3. Only candidates for the roles of Augusta, Horace, Mama McCourt, and William Jennings Bryan need present excerpts from the opera. Instructions for obtaining these will be communicated after application is received.
4. Candidates for other roles may present a lively song of their choice from American repertory (including opera and musical theater), in English.

The auditions are free, and Berkeley Opera will provide an accompanist. Each audition is likely to be quite short (less than 5 minutes).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are very interested in a major role, feel well qualified, but are unavailable for these auditions, please contact us (especially if you've sung for Berkeley Opera before), as it is possible other audition dates/times may be scheduled in November/December. However, if you have major conflicts during the rehearsal/performance period, please do not audition.

Great Holiday Activity for students of all ages!

Chorus members are needed for Mission City Opera's production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors.
There will be one performance on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3PM, in the Mission City Center for Performing Arts in Santa Clara. There will be 3 music rehearsals and 3 staging/dress rehearsals. Music Rehearsals begin this Sunday, 11-2. If you are interested call today; no prior stage experience is required.

San Francisco Parlor Opera
Seeks Baritones And Basses For Casting Its 2009 Productions of Gounod's Faust and Mozart's Don Giovanni

San Francisco Parlor Opera will be holding first round auditions on November 19 and 20, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at its office at 1652 Hayes Street in San Francisco. Faust will be performed on May 21, 23, 28 and 30, 2009. Don Giovanni in the Fall of 2009.

For baritones, please prepare two arias: Valentin's "Avant de quitter ces lieux" from Faust (or something similar in style, tessitura and language) and any Mozart baritone aria. For basses please prepare one Mozart bass aria. Please email a headshot and resume to sfparloropera@gmail.com. We will contact auditioners directly to set up an appointment. Only singers with an appointment will be heard.

Singers will be compensated for their work with San Francisco Parlor Opera.

Audition for the 2008/09 Season of the SAN FRANCISCO CHORAL ARTISTS, Magen Solomon, Artistic Director
We are a fun, innovative 20-voice chamber choir that excels in eclectic programming and exciting performances. The ensemble of choice for many composers, we sing diverse and beautiful music from around the globe, featuring both contemporary compositions and the very best choral works of the last 600 years. With 24 seasons of experience, 80 world-premieres, and a talented, cutting-edge Artistic Director, we have a strong foundation in choral arts to which we add our own contemporary flair and creativity. San Francisco Cabaret Opera Audition announcement Le nozze di Figaro

San Francisco Cabaret Opera is looking to cast Antonio, Curzio, Bartolo, Count, and Figaro in a double casted staged and costumed production with piano accompaniment. The opera will be sung in Italian with supertitles. Auditions will be scheduled as necessary on Saturdays and Sundays through November. Please prepare an aria in Italian either by Mozart or another composer from the time period. This is an opportunity for singers to perform the role and is no pay, no fee.
